About Josh R

hard Work beats talents everyday!

Hi, I have just joined university having taken a gap year where I worked in multiple schools both secondary and primary coaching hockey. I found it an extremely fulfilling experience in which I learnt how to translate my own knowledge and present it in a plethora of different ways to enable each child to develop and progress to the best of their ability. Now that I have started university I would like to continue to teach however focus more on the academic side of teaching as opposed to the physical aspect which I focused on last year. I went to Reed's school in Surrey and obtained 6A*s and 3As in A level, the A*s being in maths, English literature and language, biology, history and chemistry. I went on to study maths, English and psychology at A level where I got A*,A,B. I understand to be a successful tutor however its not solely based on your own intelligence but more the way in which you can portray the information in a simple and clear way. I realised this as I have tutored both my sisters in there GCSE's and am currently helping one of them with there psychology A level. Both of them have dyslexia so the importance of patience and accepting the fact that their mind may work differently to yours is one of the main attributes of tutoring that excites me the most. In addition to that I am an aspiring sportsman and have a scholarship for sport at Birmingham, although this doesn't directly link towards tutoring itself I would argue that due to the high level I have competed at it's taught me essential traits and skills that are vital to be a good tutor. An example of this would be the importance of persevering when things appear difficult and handling different emotions such as stress during the exam itself. As a Tutor I would talk to my student about how to handle these emotions if they were to encounter them during their actual exams. I am a firm believer that many people underperform in exams due to be overwhelmed by the pressure and stress of the situation and I would incorporate strategies which my students can use to remain focused and enable them to get the best grade they can. I'm very flexible as all my lectures are online this year.
